Greg Barton spent most of the day Friday driving 12 hours to Memphis from his home in Charleston, S.C., with a white Legacy kayak in tow.
Today, he’ll turn around and drive another 12 hours back home to finish an exhausting weekend journey.
It seems like a lot of traveling to take part in an event that lasts barely 15 minutes.
But Barton insists the annual Outdoors, Inc., Canoe & Kayak Race is well worth the drive — and his amazing record in the race seems to back up the statement.
At just after 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Barton crossed the finish line at the 27th renewal of the Outdoors, Inc., Canoe & Kayak Race with a first-place time of 16:01 in the men’s open kayaking division. He finished just ahead of Arkansas paddler Michael Herbert, who placed second in 16:20.
During the past decade, Barton has participated in the Outdoors, Inc., race nine times, winning seven of them — and he plans to keep coming back, no matter how long it takes him to get here. For Full Article Click Here
